He has undertaken similar roles in Egypt, Russian Federation, Saudi Arabia and the Czech Republic. Gary has previously worked in the private sector in the area of industrial design in China, Japan, South Korea.

Tom is Counsellor, Health Policy at the British Embassy Beijing. He leads on collaboration and exchange in health policy between the UK and China. He is a career diplomat who has served in multiple posting overseas and at the FCDO in London, including as Consul General Chicago; three postings to the British Embassy Tokyo, most recently as Counsellor, Global Challenges; several Private Secretary roles; and a range of positions in defence and security both in the UK and overseas. He studied at the School of Oriental and African Studies and the London School of Economics, holds a Masters’ Degree in Japanese Political History and the International History of East Asia, and is a Japanese speaker.

Maggie Chen joined GSK China in August 2023 as Head of Strategy and Portfolio Management and member of China Leadership team (CLT). Maggie is responsible for strategic planning of portfolio and evaluating pipeline value across medicine and vaccine. She is closely working with cross function teams to explore the development strategy, understands the market insights and defines early launch strategy to accelerate new pipeline to meet the patient needs in China. Maggie has extensive experience in brand marketing, business development and new product planning with increasing responsibilities in China, emerging market and global capacity. Prior to GSK, she was Sr. Director, Regional Therapeutic Area Lead of Hospital Portfolio and Rare Diseases at Pfizer emerging market based in Singapore from 2019 to 2023, she was leading the government central purchase agreement for COVID-19 drug. Maggie was appointed as Global Brand Lead at Pfizer Anti-infectives in the UK since 2017. Before that, Maggie worked at AstraZeneca for more than 10 years, growing from business development and new product planning role in China to global marketing director for different assets in the UK. Her career started from local marketing function in China MNC pharmaceutical companies, J&J, Eli Lilly, MSD etc. Maggie holds a Bachelor Degree of Medicine from Shanghai Medical University, and an MBA degree of Fudan University. Meanwhile, she is a licensed pharmacist certified by China NMPA.

She leads the regional marketing strategy to enable technology adoption across key genomic segments in the region, including clinical and translational research and rare disease studies. She is an experienced genomics application expert and has ever worked in the US and APAC market supporting key genomics projects, including large cohort genomic studies aiming to reveal genetic variations underpinning heritable genetic diseases. She holds a doctoral degree in molecular biology and biotechnology from the Ohio State University.

Deborah McGregor is an International Trade Specialist in Scottish Development International’s Science and Technology team, with a particular focus on growing the life sciences sector in Scotland. As part of Scotland’s main economic development agency, she works directly with Scottish companies who have expertise to support innovative drug discovery and development to help them realise their international ambitions. Prior to joining SDI, Deborah gained more than 17 years industrial experience in drug discovery and development across pharmaceutical research and development, and medical communications. She has a PhD in cell signalling from the University of Strathclyde, and a Level 4 Diploma in International Trade.

Vicky joined DBT China team as head of pharma in Feb 2023. Based in Beijing, Vicky led team members across China to drive UK export and inward investment in pharmaceutical industry.
Prior to join DBT, Vicky was head of operation and business development in Care Visions China for over 8 years, where she worked with the UK HQ to promote non-drug intervention for people in China living with dementia, established extensive network with hospitals and senior care facilities.
Vicky’s academic qualifications include a BSc in Biochemistry and a PhD in Biological Sciences from the University of Warwick, UK.

Kevin Rufang HUANG Kevin Huang, a rare disease patient himself, graduated from Zhejiang University City College. He is the founder and president of the Chinese Organization for Rare Disorders, co-founder and Secretary-General of the Hope for Rare Foundation. He was also the one who introduced the “International Rare Disease Day” to China. Through his efforts, rare diseases have become widely known in China. Kevin has 2 also been committed to facilitating communication and collaboration among various rare disease stakeholders. He founded the China Rare Disease Patient Organization Network and initiated the China Rare Disease Summit – the most influential rare disease conference in China. He is the pioneer and practitioner in the field of rare diseases in China and has become an iconic figure. In 2021, he initiated and founded the Golden Snail Award, the first award in the field of rare diseases in China. He is the chief editor of China Rare Disease Drug Accessibility Report 2019, How Patient Groups Can Promote Orphan Drug Development - The Global Experience, and China Rare Disease Healthcare Security City Report 2020.
In February 2018, he became a member of the Global Commission to End the Diagnostic Odyssey for Children with a Rare Disease.
In November 2018, he won the UAE International Genetic Disease Prevention Award (2018).
In May 2019, he and his team won the DIA China Health and Wellness Outstanding Contribution Award.
In July 2023, he became a member of Asia Pacific Regional Steering Committee of The World Patients Alliance (WPA).
黄如方本人是一名罕见病患者，2008年开始推动社会大众对于罕见病的认知和 科普教育，并成功将国际罕见病日引入中国，经过10年的推动，罕见病在中国 已从“鲜为人知”发展到如今的“广为人知”。除此之外，他更加着力于推动 各个利益相关方的交流与合作，发起创立了中国罕见病患者组织发展网络和国 内最有影响力的行业大会——中国罕见病高峰论坛。他是中国罕见病领域的开 拓者和践行者，已经成为国内这一领域公认的旗帜性人物。他是《中国罕见病 药物可及性报告2019》《患者社群组织如何推动药物研发——全球经验》和《中 国罕见病医疗保障城市报告2020》这三大研究报告的主编。2021年，他发起 创立了中国罕见病领域第一个奖项——金蜗牛奖。2022年，他联合科学家、企 业家发起成立了瑞鸥公益基金会。 2018年2月，成为全球委员会（The Global Commission to End the Diagnostic Odyssey for Children with a Rare Disease）委员。 2018年11月，黄如方获得阿联酋国际遗传病预防奖（2018）。 2019年5月，黄如方及团队获得DIA中国健康卫生杰出贡献奖。 2023年7月，成为世界患者联盟亚太地区指导委员会委员。

Hans Chen graduated from Shanghai Jiao Tong University School Medicine. He has been responsible for commercial promotion and product development in multiple multinational pharmaceutical companies and startups. He has extensive experience in special procurement of rare disease drugs, drug approval first trial, drug registration in Hong Kong and Macau, and cross border personal use of drugs. Successfully responsible for the registration, launch and landing of products such as Mitotane, Ataluren, and Diacomit at Giddi Pharma.
